Im not sure if this is the right place but Im hoping someone can give me some advice regarding something I want to do.
What i want to do is learn how to make a computer simulator that can be used to train people to operate a range of different pieces of equipment. So the person using it would see a mock up of the control panel and be able to push buttons and gauges would move accordingly, sounds plays, etc.
I want to be able to make it look like any control console (with buttons, handles, light, sounds, etc) that would be operated when the user clicks their mouse on them and ideally be easily customisable so i can take the one program and modify it to look like a range of different controllers.
I t will need to be able to run on almost any computer regardless of operating system and be extremely simple for the person using it to use. Ideally just an icon they can click on to run the simulator and a box will pop up with a menu, etc.
The problem is I dont know very much about programming and Im not quite sure of where to start. Can anyone give me any advice regarding what software language to use, what programs to use, recommend any books, etc. I realise it would take a while to get good enough to do what Ive described but if anyone can just point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.
