Can you guys explain what is PHP board?

A PHP board is simply a board/forum based on a php platform. These forums are one example.

Personally I find PHPBB 3 very good. Great support and a lot of mods and styles available. The mod I like best is the PHPBB SEO mod. It's incredible. It allows me to have links like *link removed* instead of *link removed* while at the same time redirecting it to one to avoid duplicate content. VERY recommended.

I'm a big fan of vBulletin, and the 4.0 series they're working on seems to be a really good step forward for the software package.

Freeware, can't beat phpBB. From what little I've played with the 3.x series, looks a heckuva lot easier to work with than the 2.x series I started with way back in the day.

Is this related to the thread topic?

I guess not and you are talking about board software available on the internet.

There is no "best" PHP board software. Only favorites. And my favorite is SMF.

With the recent events over at IB and vBulletin, I've become quite partial to Invision Power Board and have begun using it on my forums. It's really quite nice. I don't feel as though vBulletin simply meets the cut anymore. Despite how many developers they have, it seems as though there's numerous bugs and the software itself has become less efficient.

Personally, I use vBulletin over at my place, and I just upgraded to vBulletin 4 Publishing Suite.  However when it comes to the freeware, I agree with the original poster that phpBB2 is a lot better than phpBB3.  In my opinion, just the customization of phpBB2 makes me like it better.  But I haven't used phpBB in almost a year and I know that they've predicated the phpBB2 software.  I haven't really nosed around phpBB's site to see the selection of MODs now.

SMF version 2 is looking pretty sweet among the free options.  For pay, vBulletin always has and always will be the champ I think.

Personally, I prefer phpBB. It's fairly easy to extend, for an experienced or semi-experienced coder. The free price tag is great, too.

With the recent events over at IB and vBulletin, I've metamorphose quite coloured to Invision Commonwealth Table and individual begun using it on my forums.  It's really quite prissy.  I don't appear as though vBulletin but meets the cut anymore.
