hrmm that is good for cpanel but what if you dont have cpanel -- godaddy doesnt use it Sad

Unfortunately ISPs have to pay for cpanel, so some do not use it. I personally use phpmyadmin available here, http://www.phpmyadmin.net/ - it is really easy to install and will get you up and running in no time.

Am I right in thinking often phpmyadmin is included within cpanel?

Yes, it is more often included in cpanel. But may be there exists some hosting companies which do not include phpmyadmin in the cpanel Sad but again numbers of such companies may be very less.
