I tend to use ones that are available, but I make sure I learn how the code works so that I can edit it freely. I have had quite a lot of success doing it this way.

i personnaly use wordpress all the time when i need a CMS, its flexible, secure, powerful
you can implement whatever function you want in it through plugins and widgets
also you change the design easily and quickly by push button
and the best part is its seo capabilities and frequent upgrades

I use a premade CMS like Joomla. It will normally be a lot more secure than a random CMS that one will make, since lots of people test it and have a lot of users so bugs are reported. and i really just don't have the time to code one myself :p

Generally I like to use a CMS like Wordpress, simply due to the following it has. It's always better to stick with a CMS solution that boasts a large user base as this will mean, more updates, more themes/skins and more add-ons.

In saying that I have also worked with CMS Made Simple, PHP Nuke and Joomla with no problems at all.

A content management system (CMS) is software that keeps track of every portion of contented on your Web site, much like your local public library keeps track of books and stores them. My favorite CMS are joomla and drupal.. soccure

I agree it seems Drupal and Joomla are the most powerful. Wordpress is another example of CSS.

The NYRB website is an example of a drupal site:

It is very nice looking but they forgot to change the favicon -- it is still the default Drupal one hehehe  oops
