So, VB is prety popular nowadays. However, there have been many many different implementations of BASIC. For instance QBasic for MSDos, BBCWin for Windows, BBC Basic for Acorns etc....

Apart from the obvious differences (i.e. QBasic doesnt support GUI), what do people think about the different BASIC versions? I for one think MS actually did quite a good job with first QBasic and then Visual Basic - as far as Basic goes they are amongst the better versions I have used, but there are downsides to them too.

In addition, has anyone had any compatability issues? For instance, moving old code from QBasic to Visual Basic requiring extensive changes - without a BASIC language standard, should the designers maintain backwards compatability or is it unimportant?

VB 5.0 has full Help build in but VB6 does not have, so you have to install MSDN library (3 Cds).
