Hello

This is the sister article to my question on C++.

I've been told by some other people that java is a better language to learn for the kind of implementation needed.

Please don't close the other topic, or stop replying to the other topic, as both of these will be needed by me (though immediately this one!)

What I need, is to learn Java, within a month.

Any suggestions/pointers?

 paranoid

Thanks in advance for any replies,

Panarchy

Depending on how much programming you have done before, and what level of Java you need I think this is quite doable - you arent going to master the language within a month, but I think you should quite easily have some level of skill in it.

Personally, I found the tutorial on the Java website very useful to learn from. From teaching Java to undergrads, I think the best way to learn a language is to create loads of little examples and toy projects.... you can read all the stuff in the world but without actual practice and playing around it isnt going to do a huge amount of good.

Why not, with some resource (such as the java tutorials) try getting a small program working (just keep it simple initially) and any issues/problems/questions you face post them on here and we will be able to give you a hand.

I'm going alright....

I've upped my limit till the end of the year (not just a month).

So I'm learning C++, then I'll learn Java... all by the end of the year...  juggle

Then early next year I'll learn python, then I'll learn ocaml.

So hopefully by half-way through next year I will be an avid programmer!  rule

Good good good - sounds like you have a nice plan Smiley Whats the reason you are learning these languages, is it for school/uni, for work or just generally for fun? Also how long are you spending each week on your learning, or does it vary?

Hello

I'm learning programming (mainly) so that I can write my own hacking programs and exploits.

Also, I've now (finally) been able to learn (well haven't finished either book yet, not even half way through the first one! BUT I am on my way to becoming a programmer) C++ & Java by reading/learning the following two books;

Sams Teach Yourself C++ in One Hour A Day

Sams Teach Yourself Java 6 in 21 Days

Thanks for all help given.

Wish me luck!

What do you define by hacking and exploits - there are a number of definitons of these words, so I wont jump to any conclusions. However, I would very strongly suggest you do not use your new found skills for causing trouble. Theres plenty of constructive, rewarding, interesting projects out there which you could tackle - writing malicious code just turns you into an immature kiddie scripter.

I anticipate the individual way to discover a language is to make loads of less examples and toy projects.  You can interpret all the squeeze in the class but without factual apply and performing around it isnt exploit to do a large amount of goodish.
