Well guys what was the first web site you coded, got hosted and publicized to your friends and family?
For me, it was a simple and awfully designed clan web site that was hosted on Tripod (if my memory serves correctly), it has long been deleted however.

Back about 10 years ago I made a site on angelfire or something, it was basically a pokemon fan site but before I finally shut it down I had gotten it to about 100 visitors a day... not bad for my first work

That is pretty good, I wonder why free hosts like Tripod and Angelfire seem to really appeal to new web developers. Must be because they are well known and free at the time

The first Website i Created was a very basic site just having some text written on it and it was linked to couple of pages in which i had some pictures . It used HTML for doing the same ,now whenever i looked at something like that it reminds me of my that work.

My first website was on geocities - it was before it changed, and you had to select a region (silicon valley for computer stuff) and then a free "house" to move into - at which point you got a numeric address. Was a very basic site I created, and great fun to play around with all that!

I remember I helped my college to maintain and modify their website. It was the first experience of working on websites and handling FTP related file upload/download work.

I don't remember.. it was either a clan website, or it was a website that I made for homework. ...no, my teacher didn't tell us to do a website. She asked us to hand in a flyer, and I went a bit overboard. Too bad I just used a template.. :/ Oh well, I was about 11 years old anyway.

Mine was evergreen.co.cc which i closed it after running it for a year, then i created legspin.co.cc which is still running, i usually get hundred or more visitors. I really liked when few people landed on my free website and commented, it was really great.

I created my first website using some simple HTML codes, which only contained a few text and some pictures on couple of pages linked together.

Creating a static website is best option if you don't know programming. The only thing that annoy is that as they are static they are not dynamic, meaning you have to update everything manually every-time.
