This tutorial is aimed at the PHP novice and will teach you PHP from the ground up. If you want a drive-through PHP tutorial this probably is not the right tutorial for you.
Remember, you should not try to plow through this tutorial in one sitting. Read a couple lessons, take a break, then do some more after the information has had some time to sink in.

If you want step-by-step video tutorials, and don't mind paying for it, Lynda.com has an excellent set of tutorials (about 22 hours of video). They will get you up and running very painlessly and cover all of the basics. Including cookies, sessions, database access, get, post, classes, ftp, email, etc.

I actually think the user manual of the official php website is a pretty solid resource, but there are too many to count. stackoverflow.com is good as well.

PHP is an HTML-embedded scripting language. PHP-enabled web pages are treated just like regular HTML pages and you can actualize and adit them the same way you commonly actualize approved HTML pages.

Hi, PHP defined as a named constant at runtime. . The value of the constant; only scalar and null values are allowed. Scalar values are integer, float, string or boolean values. It is possible to define resource constants, however it is not recommended and may cause unpredictable behavior. . . .

Basics
Variables in PHP are represented by a dollar sign followed by the name of the variable. The variable name is case-sensitive.
Variable names follow the same rules as other labels in PHP. A valid variable name starts with a letter or underscore, followed by any number of letters, numbers, or underscores. As a regular expression, it would be expressed thus: '[a-zA-Z_\x7f-\xff][a-zA-Z0-9_\x7f-\xff]*'
Note: For our purposes here, a letter is a-z, A-Z, and the bytes from 127 through 255 (0x7f-0xff).
Note: $this is a special variable that can't be assigned.

A PHP Program ? contained in an HTML document.
? All code is found inside:
<?php ... ?> tags. ? conditional HTML
– you can have PHP control what HTML actually makes it to the output document. <?php if (foo) { ?>
<h3> foo is true!</h3>
<?php else ?>
<h3> foo is false!</h3>

Programming can be very interesting and fun, making something from nothing is very hard to do.
The beginning can be a bit slow, but once you really start to get into it and learning some more advanced techniques it is quite fun to program websites using PHP.
Just keep on trucking along, don't give up just yet in the beginning. Stick with it for a while longer and you will see that it is actually quite fun and interesting. Learning new techniques how to do something, and learning totally new things in PHP.
