We all see people online who claim to be "experienced programmers" - and Im sure a few of us have used it in CVs.

But, what actually is an experienced programmer? Is it determined by years of coding, number of languages known, etc...

Do people think we could ever have an objective way of determining wheter someone was experienced or not?

I think this is quite a difficult question - there are many different types of programmer who have accumulated different types of expertise. Some people will be highly experienced and proficient at programming test cases and harnesses for example, while others will be proficient at developing functioning applications.

I understand that there is no such kind of definition for an experianced Programmer. Its all depends upon the Person to whom we are talking about. Expertise can be judge by the process of worknig , hows he takes an problem and what kind of initiative he takes to reslove that problem. Hows he map his work with the requirement to achieve the goal.
