PHP is quite a powerful tool - I have certainly used it to develop alot of my web applications in and as an added bonus it works great with technologies such as MySQL.

But, recently it seems that things such as ASP are becomming more and more popular - do people think that PHP will loose a considerable amount of "market share"? Languages do drop off in popularity, for instance PERL seems less popular that it used to be, will PHP have the same fate?

I think it depends largely on how actively PHP continues to be developed. Perl has certainly been eclipsed, but at the time that began to happen it was not as widely and easily used as PHP is now. PHP may very will one day be replaced with a new language as well, but I think the developer community will keep it alive and in the forefront much, much longer than Perl's community managed.

I've actually started to see quite a few large shops move from php python and ruby for the sake of quality. Nowadays everyone who only knows a little PHP thinks they're the best of programmers. those who verse in several languages will come out on top Smiley

PHP, AJAX, HTML will be my choices forever, unless someone throws some stuff out there that really impresses me.  I'll go with the better code not the current Web trend

I don't think so. I think PHP simply has much more "force" behind it than ASP, RoR, or any of the other web technologies. PHP/mySQL seem like they're positioned to be the premiere web technologies for quite some time Smiley

I agree with those choices because they have so much to offer.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it. <grin>

PHP is a very powerful tool to create dynamic pages. Most of the IT companies are used PHP rather than other programming languages. There are so many benefits of PHP like easy to use, Open Source, low cost of hosting, etc.
