Can anybody tell me which is the best IDE to be used with java and from where i can get it?

Very subjective! There are loads of IDEs out there, personally I use Eclipse and I really like it. Even better for Mesham all I had to do was write a plugin and it is an IDE for that language also  The best thing about it is the history feature, where you can compare code to what you had weeks ago (and go back if need be!) Also things like autocomplete, syntax colouring etc are very useful. There are many other IDEs out there - NetBeans, BlueJ, RealJ spring to mind. A google search should easily find them for download. It depends what they want, I agree Eclipse is very good but it doesn't do (for instance) GUI design which others do.... depends on the OP if that is an important aspect or not

It depends what they want, I agree Eclipse is very good but it doesn't do (for instance) GUI design which others do.... depends on the OP if that is an important aspect or not There are plugins out there for the Eclipse platform that give GUI editing capabilities similar in fact, to that of Visual Studio - however the good ones are commercial and can be rather pricey. It all depends on whether you can live without the tools - they certainly make life easier, and if you can afford it, you might end up saving money in regards to time by having them.

I'm a big fan of Eclipse, and it's actually very versatile too. There's plugins out there that allow you to use it for other languages as well, which is very useful if you're working on multiple projects and want to confine everything to the same workspace with the ability to switch back and forth between languages and setups.
I use it with PHP as well (via a plugin), and it's portable, which makes it easy to move from machine to machine.

Eclipse is very useful - I use it for my C/C++, Java and PHP development personally.

I think that Eclipse was way too slow for my taste. I liked NetBeans far better. Though I'd prefer to write in plain text editors.

Really? What version of Eclipse were you using? I have always found Eclipse to be very responsive, although I suppose it depends what you are using it for and what functions you have enabled. Plain text editors are ok, but it can get awkward when you have large projects composed of many files, and things like syntax colouring etc does make readability easier imho

It's been about 4 years since I've used Eclipse, and 3 since I've used Netbeans. I don't have much of a point of reference on the current versions, it's been a long time since I've needed to write in Java.

Not just Java - use it for anything.... although I think by default it is mainly geared towards Java. Am I right in thinking Sun's Forte was the predecessor to Netbeans? I have never used netbeans but remember using Forte - did not like the code it generated for GUI stuff, but then again I should have known better and handwritten the GUI aspects

Also, I use Eclipse. It is very easy to learn and use. The basic means of any Java developers, including Java, IDE, a CVS client, XML Editor and Mylyn. This is a new fast access, improve the IDE navigation.

I am using Ecilpse 6. This is best IDE but if new IDE is best as compare to eclipse then I don't have an idea.

I would like to suggest you Netbeans, Which is most popular JAVA IDE. Netbeans is more popular for it's modular architecture.

It all depends on whether you can resilient without the tools - they sure eliminate living easier, and if you can open it, you power end up saving money in regards to term by having them.

So I think Jcreator is the best choice.
